60 kilometer bike ride for sustainable development

The tour started in Hammelburg, where District Administrator Thomas Bold and Mayor Armin Warmuth reported about municipal commitment to sustainable development. The tour continued uphill along the Thulba to the adventure farm of the Wagenbrenner family in Oberthulba for an up close impressions of the farm. Mayor Mario Götz welcomed the group and Anja Wagenbrenner had packed picnic bags for everyone that were eaten later at a stop at Hermannsruh where the view of the Hohe Rhön, a shady spot  and a delicious selection of regional foods provided new strength.

At the next stop at Klaushof Bad Kissingen, Joachim Schneider gave an overview of the work in the Nature Experience Center Rhön (NEZ), before the cycling group - well accompanied on all routes by the volunteer fire departments of Thulba and Fuchsstadt - set off on the descent into the Saaletal. At the Lower Saline in Bad Kissingen, Anna Maria Boll, the Site Manager of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bad Kissingen, was already waiting for them. A short journey back in time took the cyclists into the lives of kings, emperors and Imperial Chancellor Bismarck. This included a sip of healing spring water, "drunk with good thoughts," as a contemporary recommendation put it.

The tour continued through the Saaletal to the Potatis farm in Elfershausen where insects are welcomed with blooming flowers and insect hotels and the hungry cyclists with coffee, ice tea and a cake. After that, the rest of the 60 kilometers back to the starting point could be mastered well.

The organisation team from the Bavarian administration of the biosphere reserve Rhön, the intercommunal alliances Kissinger Bogen and Fränkisches Saaletal as well as the regional management Bad Kissingen were pleased about the interested cyclists and would like to thank everyone who contributed their view of sustainable development on this day.
